Presidential Clock WIP

Description

Today is President's day, so i thought id get this out for a WIP pic. Its an FDR Steersmen clock made in the 1930's to commemorate FDR being the President that will lead America out of the depression. They made a few other versions of it, even one with just FDR, but i haven't seen many of this version.

This is one of my restoration projects I've been working on, off an on since Summer. Since its president's day, I thought id get it out and work on it some. This clock is actually kinda custom. MY great Grandpa had it, and I guess the original clock broke and he replace it with one from a 1938 Buick lol
He even made a metal bezel around it so it would fit.
So far I took apart the Buick clock, and cleaned out the rotted, fake wood grain, and made my own insert, which I stained. I made a thin wood overlay to to cover the metal bezel, I thought the clock would look more like an ol timey ship's wheel with wood on it.
I polished up the pot metal, bronze plated base the best I could, still looks kinda nice with just the right amount of patina.

I just have things kinda mocked up for now, i still need to wire it, and find a better way to mount the clock inside. Might even have the clock light up, it still has a bulb in it lol

here's a before pic when I had it in my attic for a few years: [link]
